Mary Ellen Kokoszka

1933 - 2025

Mary Ellen Kokoszka, 92, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family. Born on May 18, 1933, in San Diego, California, she was the youngest daughter of the late Warren and Dorothy Boughton. She is preceded in death by her twin sisters, Doris Holladay and Dorothy Davis, as well as by her husbands, John J. Davidsaver, Sr., and Melvin Kokoszka.

She is survived by her seven children (and their spouses): Mary Claire; John Jr. (Apple); Thomas (Alex); Daniel (Tracie); Emily (Dave); Peter (Tonya); and Samuel (Rachel). Her legacy continues through her 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A dedicated homemaker throughout her life, Mary Ellen poured her heart into creating a warm and welcoming home. She had a remarkable talent for working with her hands—sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and scrapbooking were among the many crafts she mastered with care and creativity. Her fondness for collecting cows—(ceramic figurines, plush toys, you name it), brought a touch of whimsy to her home and joy to those who visited.

Mary Ellen's kitchen was the heart of many family gatherings. Her homemade pies, cakes, and desserts were more than just treats—they were traditions that brought generations together around the table. Her baking was an expression of love that nourished both body and spirit.

Selfless and deeply compassionate, she never sought the spotlight. Instead, she quietly and gracefully supported those she cared for with gentleness, kindness, strength, and a steady presence that will continue to guide us all.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, at St. Margaret's Church, 4300 Oceanside Blvd., Oceanside, CA 92056. She will be laid to rest immediately following at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery.

A celebration of Mary Ellen's life will follow at a location TBD.
