Mary Gibbs Farrell, age 95, died peacefully on January 14, 2026 in the loving care of her daughter’s home. She was surrounded by her children and many grandchildren. She was born on December 26, 1930, in Bronxville, New York, and was the daughter of the late Louis and Arline (Schneer) Gibbs.
Mary attended Henry Barnard elementary school and Rye Country Day School. Following graduation, she continued her education at Simmons University. She went on to pursue a meaningful career as a physical therapist. She initially specialized in the care of children diagnosed with polio at Grasslands Hospital in Valhalla, New York. Later in life, she focused on the care of geriatric patients by continuing her work in various nursing homes throughout Pinellas County, Florida.
For many years Mary delighted in being a stay at home mom and homemaker. She took care of her husband, and raised 3 children and many dogs.
In her free time, Mary found great joy in gardening and reading a good book. She was known for her kindness and generosity, always lending a helping hand to her older neighbors and assisting them however she could. Mary also gave back to her Clearwater community by volunteering at the local food pantry and was a devoted and active member of Unity Church in Clearwater, Florida.
Mary possessed a deep compassion for animals, especially dogs, and possessed a gentle soul that felt deeply connected to nature. She adored the peace of the Adirondacks and the rich warm colors of Autumn. This was a love that was reflected in the delicate patterns of her wedding china, to the forest figurines that brightened her home. Whether she was watching birds outside her window, admiring the changing leaves, or enjoying the bunnies hop in the yard, she found peace in the nature that surrounded her.
Mary was pre-deceased by her husband "Bob", Robert R. Farrell (3/10/2003). She is survived by her three children, Arline Wolfe (Gerry), Jane Farrell Neidhart ( John), "Bob" Robert Farrell Jr. (Leanne). She has eight grandchildren, one step grandchild, and one great grandchild.
A late spring/early summer celebration of life, and graveside funeral will be announced at a later date and will take place in Westport, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Westport Public Library, Westport NY.
