Mary Kate “Micki” Fortner (née Dupree), age 73, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, in Glasgow, Kentucky, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 10, 1953, in Rye, New York, Micki lived a life defined by love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to those she cherished.
Micki’s professional journey was as dynamic as her personality. She retired as marketing director for Circol Builders Inc., a company she and her husband, Timothy Fortner, built together—a testament to their shared vision and hard work. Earlier in her career, while living in Dallas, she coordinated surgeries for a renowned craniofacial surgeon, demonstrating both compassion and organizational skill. Later, in Indianapolis, she helped organize a citywide “Week of Kindness” and promoted the work of a bestselling author, reflecting her remarkable ability to connect with others and make a meaningful impact wherever life took her.
Micki approached life with curiosity and a sense of adventure. She found lasting love with Timothy, her very first kiss back in middle school. Their reunion felt like life coming full circle, and together they shared 30 years of companionship, laughter, and memories.
One of her greatest joys was raising her daughters, Lara (Ani) Shastry and Emily (Jacob) Kiesel. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and the lives they built. As “Gam” to five grandchildren—Fynn Dragan Shastry; Bowen, River, Micah, and Mila Kiesel—Micki delighted in their presence, cherishing every moment spent with them.
She is also survived by her stepson Jonathan Fortner; her sister Dee Silverstein; and countless friends whose lives were brighter because of her vibrant spirit.
Micki found joy in creative and simple pleasures. She loved painting watercolor reproductions of classic artists, tending to her roses, and walking her dogs, Coco and Woody. A spiritual person at heart, she valued self-reflection and personal growth.
Those who knew Micki will remember her for lighting up every room she entered. Her stories could leave others laughing, and her endearing self-deprecating humor made everyone feel seen and valued. She believed people mattered far more than possessions and approached life with an open, adventurous heart. Her energy, generosity, and warmth leave a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Mary Kate “Micki” Fortner’s warmth, humor, and kindness will be deeply missed.
