Mary Helz

Mary Katherine Helz (née Ortkras), age 83, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Born on December 16, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, Mary lived a full and meaningful life rooted in family and community. She was the beloved wife of the late F. Robert Helz and a devoted mother to her children: Kim (Bob) Schmidt, Marko (Natalie) Helz, and the late Matthew R. Helz (Kristin Nederveld, Fiancé ). Her love extended deeply to her eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.

Mary shared a close bond with her siblings throughout her life. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Roseanne Paul and brothers Lawrence (Angela) Ortkras and Leo Ortkras. Her family ties were strong and enduring, forming the foundation of many cherished memories.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Funeral Mass will be held in her honor on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St Mary of the Hills Catholic Church, 2675 John R Road, Rochester Hills, MI. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10:30 am.
