Mary Jessie Hernandez

Mary Jessie Hernandez, age 80, of Pomona, CA, passed away peacefully on April 13.

Born on July 21, 1945 in Pomona, CA, Mary was the beloved daughter of David and Margarita Ramirez. She grew up in La Verne and was a graduate of Bonita High School, Mt. SAC, and Cal Poly Pomona (BS&MA). She volunteered and was an active member of the PTA. She shared her love of learning by becoming an elementary teacher for PUSD for 26 years. Mary was known for her kindness, strength, generosity, and she touched the lives of everyone she met. She loved gardening, teaching, word puzzles, music, and cooking shows.

She is survived by her spouse of 56 years Daniel R. Hernandez, son James and his wife Gina, daughter Lani and her husband Michael, son Edward, daughter Margarita and her husband Oscar, grandchildren Katia, Kylene, Jason, Jeremiah and siblings Everia, Consuelo, Lupe, Margaret, David, Frank, and godchildren, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on April 23rd at Todd’s Memorial Chapel in Pomona, with visitation from 5-7pm followed by a rosary at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held on April 24th at 12pm at St. Madeleine Catholic Church in Pomona.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: American Lung Association or St. Jude Children’s Hospital or American Cancer Society.

Her love, wisdom, and guidance will remain in our hearts forever.
