Obituary for Mary Irene Dolan
The long and lilting story of Mary Dolan's life began with belonging to a clan of cousins, aunts and uncles in Germantown, PA where the Irish families warmly shared the good will of their homes with one another. Mary remembers the years with just her mother while her dad served in the Navy in WWII. After that she took on a big sister role to the two siblings that came along, brother Tom and sister Pat. Always eager to learn, she appreciated her school days at Nazareth Academy.

Mary's talent for writing got a foothold in her early jobs when she was given responsibility for publications - that went beyond her title of secretary. Eventually she did promotions for clients when she formed her own public relations agency. Along the way, her flair for photography flourished and she discovered a following for her pictures.

At fifty she found Judy...yes, a soulmate and, together, they created the next forty years of mutual story. That began with their migration to share a house by the sea. Those seven years in a rustic cottage in Owls Head, Maine was the ultimate adventure. The experience involved launching a business that combined poetry and pictures, caring for a group of adopted dogs and rescued cats, regularly tending to a wood stove, enjoying abundant lilacs and taking in the stunning scenery of Penobscot Bay.

The last chapter of Mary's life was spent on the Eastern Shore of Maryland near her sister which meant gatherings with her nephew AJ, his wife Phoebe and their three daughters who she came to treasure.

Always full of zip, zest and creativity, Mary was a skilled and enthusiastic cook. The main goal in her life was to feed people and felines! Also, she put on her writer's cap nurturing other's efforts in classes and having her own charming stories published.

She and Judy knew how to cherish their life together and tended well the home fires. At daily teatime they used mugs with the words "With You I'm Home". Mary stayed as long as her heart allowed in company with her kitties until the last breath.

Ever an original, she carved a path that was authentic and deliberate. She was frank and spontaneous, full of spunk and spirit. How fully she lived and loved. Always Mary!

Mary was born on December 8, 1935, to Mary (Kendra) Dolan and William James Dolan. She is survived by her partner Judy, her brother Thomas Dolan and her sister Patricia (Mike)Levitt. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers.

An act of kindness in Mary's memory would be wonderful.
