Mary Beth Metzger faithfully answered God's call through a lifetime of quiet obedience, steadfast prayer, and unwavering devotion to His Word. On December 11, 2025, at the age of 77, she was called home to glory in Reno, Nevada, leaving behind a legacy of faith that will continue to bear fruit for generations.
Born on July 8, 1948, in Colby, Thomas County, Kansas, Mary Beth lived a life anchored in Scripture and guided by prayer. A devoted Southern Baptist Christian, she believed the Bible to be the absolute and living truth of God. She often referred to Scripture as her "owner's manual," ordering every decision and season of her life according to its wisdom. God came first in her heart—always—followed by her family, and then her beloved church family and friends.
For nearly four decades, Granite Hills Baptist Church was the center of Mary Beth's spiritual life and service. Attending since June 1986 and a faithful member since September 24, 1986, she poured herself into the ministry of the church through children's Sunday School, women's Bible studies, senior gatherings, JOY ministries, and the prayer chain she faithfully led. She was a teacher to hundreds, a caregiver to many, a prayer warrior without ceasing, and a gentle yet bold messenger of God's truth to everyone she encountered. GHBC was her earthly home, and as her family holds with confident faith, it is now her eternal family in heaven.
Mary Beth's calling to nurture and guide children extended beyond the church walls. In the early 2000s, she was blessed to work with children at the YMCA, where she faithfully served for nearly a decade. There, as everywhere else she went, she brought patience, kindness, and Christlike love into the lives of countless young hearts. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the YMCA for being a meaningful chapter in Mary Beth's story and for allowing her to live out her calling to love, teach, and protect children during those years.
Mary Beth expressed her love and faith not only through service and prayer, but also through creativity. She loved art deeply and created countless pieces filled with intention and tenderness, gifting them to family and friends as reflections of her heart and her faith.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel Edward Metzger, who entered eternal rest on February 20, 2016; and by her brothers, Paul Chase and Larry Chase. Married on June 12, 1969, Mary Beth and Daniel shared nearly 47 years of Christ-centered marriage, standing as a living testimony to holy matrimony, faithfulness, and sacrificial love. When her patriarch went home to the Lord, a part of Mary Beth's heart followed, until her own reunion in glory.
Mary Beth is lovingly survived by her children: Lee Daniel Metzger, Maria Daneece Mankin, Eric Wayne Metzger, Corina Anne Padilla, and Jenni Sue McCormick; her cherished grandchildren: Wyatt Metzger, Gage Metzger, Avyn Metzger, Taran Metzger, Brandon Magana, Ryan Magana, Asher Padilla, Crystal McCormick, Trevor Jones, Joshua Jones, and Christian Jones; and by her brother, Ronald Chase. Her faith, prayers, and love live on through them and through the many lives she touched in faithful service to God.
A Celebration of Life honoring Mary Beth Metzger will be held on January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Granite Hills Baptist Church, located at 10350 N. Red Rock Road, Reno, Nevada 89508. A potluck fellowship with her loving family and friends will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Granite Hills Baptist Church at https://ghbcreno.org/giving , honoring Mary Beth's heart for building a family education center where God's Word can be taught and the Gospel faithfully proclaimed through the GHBC Family Education Building.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
