Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Miller Morin, of Greenville, SC, wife of Capt. Gene D. Morin (USN Ret),
passed away on February 11, 2026. Born in Ft. Meade, Florida on August 12, 1927, the daughter
of William Hart and Maude Elizabeth (Harling) Miller, she spent most of her growing up years in
Greenville, South Carolina. While Greenville was home, she maintained close ties to her cousins
in Edgefield. After graduating from Furman University in 1949, Betty went on to teach school in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and South Carolina before her marriage.

As a Navy wife for 22 years, Betty thoroughly enjoyed living in different parts of the country,
from Boston and Charleston to San Diego and Northern Virginia. She and Gene enjoyed each
new duty station, created lifelong friends wherever they lived, and made sure that their three children took advantage of the adventures that being a Navy family offered. From hiking in the Shenandoah and exploring oceans and canyons on the West Coast to taking her children to every Smithsonian in Washington, DC, she enthusiastically embraced each new location. One
of her children's favorite memories was of trips to the National Gallery of Art in Washington,
D.C., where Betty guided them from one painting to another, encouraging them to make
observations about the artists and subject matter. She was never at a loss for ideas to enrich
her children's lives and was the best of mothers, providing loving structure and raising children
who were not only siblings but close friends.

During their 71-year marriage, Betty and Gene unwaveringly supported and delighted in one
another. They never lost their sense of humor or their devotion to one another. Betty was
particularly happy when she and Gene were on the go, whether they were visiting a small South
Carolina town or the city of Paris, France. One of the last things Betty said was "Oh, there is my
precious one", as she saw Gene come into the room.

Betty was an active member of First Baptist Greenville, serving as a deacon, adult Sunday
School teacher, congregational representative to United Ministries, chair of her circle, and a
member of various committees. Her faith was graciously lived out in relationship with everyone
she met, making a difference to hundreds of lives through her ability to compassionately listen
and provide warm friendship.

She is survived by her brother, Sidney Miller, her daughter, Mary Beth Morin Duty (Vernon), her
beloved grandchildren, Andrew Douglas Duty and Wilson Hart (Laura) Duty, dear great-
granddaughters, Wiley Hart Duty and Arden Rose Duty, and numerous nieces, nephews, and
cousins. Her two sons, Gene Douglas Morin, Jr. (Gail) and Russell Lawrence Morin (Harris)
predeceased her as did her sister, Nancy Hart Hamrick.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at First Baptist Church Greenville, 847 Cleveland
Street on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception following.

The family is grateful for the tender care Betty received from Comfort Keepers, and especially
wishes to thank Brenda Smith, Kathryn Tucker, and Nicole Flynn.

Donations may be made to Triune Mercy Center, whose mission work supports those in need in
Greenville.
