Mary Nilmeier passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025 at the age of 85, after a long illness.
Born in Bronx, New York, Mary moved to Fresno, California as a teenager, where she attended San Joaquin Memorial High School and, after graduation, worked as a bank teller. In 1959, she married Gary Nilmeier. They had three children. The family lived in Fresno until 1979, when they relocated to Carmichael, California. After Gary’s retirement, the couple moved to the Lake of the Pines community in Auburn, California.
Mary was vivacious, outgoing, and devoted to her family. She was a gifted cook and enjoyed entertaining, especially on Christmas Eve. She was a big movie buff, a passion she shared with her children, and an avid reader. To her close friends and family, Mary was known for her detailed and entertaining letters, written in a conversational style.
Preceded in death by her parents, Phil and Elsie Di Leo, Mary is survived by her loving husband Gary Nilmeier, her daughters Lisa Derthick (Thomas) and Lori Rasor (Richard), her son Timothy, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her brother Christopher Stone.
A private celebration of life will be planned at a later time.
