Mary H. Waldron

1929 - 2025

Mary H. Waldron, 96, passed away peacefully at home on September 26, 2025, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. A woman of remarkable intellect, enduring faith, and unwavering dedication to her community, Mary's life was a shining example of service, leadership, and grace.

Born on January 26, 1929, in Radford, Virginia, Mary embodied the values of a traditional Southern upbringing—hospitality, strength of character, and a deep sense of responsibility to others. Her academic journey began at Mary Baldwin College and culminated with distinction at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, where she earned her master's degree. Her pursuit of education reflected her lifelong commitment to learning and excellence.

Mary's professional path led her to Washington D.C., where she served on the congressional staff for Virginia's 5th district. Her work in the nation's capital marked the beginning of a life devoted to civic engagement and public service.

In 1999, Mary became a resident of Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Maryland—a community that would become central to her later years. There, she continued her legacy of leadership as a former member of the Board of Directors and past Chair of the Resident Council for the Wallace Building. She also served as President of the Keese School of Continuing Education, fostering lifelong learning among residents.

Her devotion extended beyond civic life into spiritual service. A long-time member of The Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Gaithersburg and former lay leader at University United Methodist Church in College Park, Mary was deeply involved in church activities and ministries. Her faith also guided her work with Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C., where she served for twelve years on the Board of Governors and was honored as Governor Emeritus—a testament to her enduring commitment to theological education.

Mary's vibrant personality shone through in every aspect of her life. She was an active member of MaCCRA (Maryland Continuing Care Residents Association) and past president of the Paint Branch Garden Club of College Park. Whether tending gardens or engaging in spirited discussions about policy or theology, Mary brought energy and insight to every endeavor.

She shared a love for golf with her late husband Richard "Dick" Waldron—one of three beloved spouses who preceded her in death: Richard V. Waldron (2005), William A. Ball (2013), and Russel E. Webber (2021). Each partnership enriched her life with companionship and shared purpose.

Mary is survived by her loving children: Robert H. Waldron and his wife Jeannie Waldron of Lake Shore, MD; Mary Grace Waldron and her partner Alan Zambreny of Greenbelt, MD; and stepdaughter Sandra Waldron Dubin and her husband Bob Dubin of Stuart, FL. She was a cherished grandmother to Tyler Robert Waldron; Eric Richard Waldron and his wife Nadia; and Noah Miller Waldron.

A memorial service celebrating Mary's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Guild Memorial Chapel, Asbury Methodist Village, 201 Russell Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD. A reception will follow immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, The Wesley Theological Seminary or The Benevolent Care Fund of Asbury Methodist Village —organizations that reflect Mary's enduring legacy of faith and compassion.

Mary H. Waldron's life was a testament to strong will, keen intellect, and an unyielding commitment to community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
