With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Maryellen Patricia Gaffney, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who peacefully left us on December 1st at the age of 82 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Maryellen was born in Brooklyn, NY to John and Elizabeth O'Rourke. After moving to New Jersey, she attended Belleville High School, where she met her future husband, John Gaffney. Their marriage in 1966 marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership, and together they built a home in Lake Hiawatha, raising two sons, John and Doug.
Maryellen was preceded in death by her sister, Carol McKeown, and her brother, John O'Rourke. She is survived by her brother, Tom O'Rourke; her devoted husband, John; her loving sons, John and Doug; and her cherished grandchildren, Liam (12) and Tiffani (13).
Known for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family, Maryellen touched the lives of everyone she met. She found joy in exercising, attending Broadway shows in New York City, and showing up for all her extended family's important moments. Her love of singing and dancing brought happiness to those around her.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 3400 Old Alabama Road, Johns Creek, GA, on Thursday, December 11 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the
Alzheimer's Association, honoring Maryellen's memory and supporting others facing this illness.
Maryellen's legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
