Matthew “Matt” Chalmers, 50, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away March 16, 2026, after a brief illness. Born in Birmingham, Michigan, Matt lived a life defined by selfless devotion to family, deep professional integrity, and the fierce determination to always do ‘what was right’.

Matt is the beloved husband of Amanda, whom he met and married over 25 years ago in Fort Worth, Texas. As he shared in the final weeks of his life, it was always and only Amanda for him, and her tireless support through his last weeks was a living tribute to their shared partnership and mutual devotion. Matt is also survived by their children, Emma (18), and Caleb (15). These three people were the center of his world. He took great pride in being a committed husband and father, providing for their every need and creating a safe, loving environment for them to flourish.

Post receiving his MBA from Baylor University, Matt built a successful career in finance and served as a respected leader first with Lockheed Martin, and then for the past 20+ years with Siemens in North America. His career took him and his family to many places over the years, including Texas, Kentucky, Florida, and ultimately the Carolinas. In each community, Matt built lasting friendships and left a meaningful impression on colleagues, neighbors, and friends alike.

Matt was a study in contrasts. A dedicated student of leadership yet always yearning to have more impact. A devoted husband and father yet feeling he was inadequate and letting them down. A bright, talented finance operations executive yet feeling like he was the least talented of his siblings. His natural mode was to take on greater responsibility, shoulder accountability, shield others from pressure and stress, and protect and advocate for those needing assistance. He would encourage loved ones and colleagues to rest, take breaks, take good care of themselves, yet rarely allow that relief for himself.

Matt was the youngest child, growing up with two older sisters. He was an avid advocate for women in the workplace, and fiercely protective of his brilliant daughter, Emma. His philosophy of what it meant to be a ‘good man’ came through consciously choosing to become the opposite of the example he grew up with. He shared and taught constantly – to other men in the groups and communities he was a member of – and most importantly with his beloved son, Caleb.

Matt’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. Whether through church, community service, or simply helping a friend in need, Matt believed deeply in giving back and lifting others up. He spent a great deal of his adult life mentoring, coaching, and guiding others to be a better version of themselves.

To those who knew him best, Matt will be remembered as super smart, generous, always talking, intense, thoughtful, and a deeply serious person – who remained a loyal Detroit Lions fan throughout his life. He had a gift for making people feel seen and valued, emphasizing their value and worth. And yet he could also communicate with just a look if he thought you were being a bonehead. You always knew where you stood with Matt; He was not a subtle guy.

Matt’s legacy lives on in the love he shared with his family, the friendships he cultivated across many communities, and the many lives he touched through work. One of the last things he said before he passed was ‘More joy. Less sadness.’

Amen.

He will be missed.
