Matthew Paul Groff at the age of 39, passed away on April 6, 2026, in downtown Jacksonville, FL. Born on October 9, 1986, Matthew's life will be remembered by his outgoing personality, outstanding love for his family, passion for creating flavorful and comforting cuisines for customers at work and loved ones around him.
Matthew was known for his infectious humor and caring personality. It didn't matter if he had just met you, or you were an important individual of his life, he treated everyone with the same love, respect, and kindness equally. He brought joy and laughter to all who knew him, embodying a spirit that was both lighthearted yet full of depth. His most passionate love was for his family, whom he considered his greatest achievement in life.
Professionally, Matthew was a passionate chef, having worked in the culinary industry for over 20 years. He mastered his skills in various kitchens, eventually achieving the title of Sous Chef at North Beach Fish Camp. His love for cooking was not just a profession but a lifestyle. Matthew's greatest dream was to open a food truck with his family, to showcase his creativity in the dishes that he would often create at home for them. When it came to food, he always had ideas to elevate an experience.
Matthew was a devoted father and husband. He is survived by his wife, Christina Groff; his children, Aidan and Audrina Groff; his father, Alfred Groff; brothers, John and Joshua Groff; and his beloved pets. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Groff, and his grandmother, Katherine Howell.
An avid fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Matthew enjoyed watching or catching a game when he could. Growing up in Mayport, he enjoyed spending relaxing and peaceful moments on the beach with family and friends at the jetties. When it came to his taste in music, Matt enjoyed a diverse variety. The instruments and vibe of the song got his attention, but when he learned the lyrics and the meaning behind them, it spoke to his soul. His goal for travel, when possible, was to provide new life experiences together with his wife and kids.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of him privately by his family. We know Matt impacted many other people's lives, but we have chosen to celebrate him with just family around. Please respect our wishes, and feel free to honor his life in any way you see fit. If you would like to contribute to the National Alliance on Mental Illness Jacksonville, Florida, this would be a way to honor Matthew's memory and support a subject important to him.
