Matthew James Warfield

1956 - 2025

Matthew James Warfield, age 69, of Seattle, Washington, completed his final chapter of a life lived with depth, courage, and curiosity on November 12. Born in Prey, Montana, Matt was raised at the Davis Ranch, where his family's roots in ranching ran deep and proud.

Matt earned his PhD in fluid dynamics from Penn State and spent 23 years at Boeing, retiring as a Senior Technical Fellow. He was known for his brilliant mind and the kind of quiet precision that made complex problems solvable. He often joked he was "slow but thorough"—but anyone who knew him knew better. He was a force.

Outside of work, Matt was a devoted mountain and rock climber. Nature was his sanctuary. He knew the climbing routes of the Pacific Northwest, and his knowledge helped his crew reach summits both literal and personal.

Matt's passions included music, mother nature, and long conversations with his friends and family. He lived by the mantra: "If not now, when." And he meant it.

Matt is survived by his son, Jason Matthew Warfield; his beloved grandchildren, Ben and Adelle; his sisters, Lauri Redfield, and Sarah Nollmyer and their husbands; his nieces, Jodi and Kate. His legacy lives on in the peaks he climbed and the minds he inspired.
