With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother, Maureen Patricia (Petersen) Alborano on January 28, 2026, in the comforting embrace of Florida's warmth surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 18, 1939, in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn, NY, Maureen lived a life rich in love, laughter, and creativity.
The cherished daughter of (predeceased) Mary Flynn Petersen, and sister of (predeceased)Vera DeLorenzo and Julianne Devita, Maureen was a beacon of joy and warmth from the very beginning. She shared a beautiful marriage with her husband, Peter J. Alborano, for 60 years until his untimely passing in 2021. Together, they built a family filled with love, raising three precious children: Joseph, Peter and Dina Alborano, who, along with Maureen’s five grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda, Brianna, Joseph Jr and Matthew Alborano and great granddaughter, Melania survive her and continue her legacy of love and laughter.
Maureen’s life was a tapestry of artistic passions and compassionate service. A proud graduate of Clara Barton High School in Brooklyn, NY, she furthered her education and training as a nurse aide, dedicating herself to the care of others. Her artistic soul found expression in her role as an art teacher at Our Lady of Grace School, where she also volunteered as a dedicated lunch mother. Her passion for art extended beyond the classroom as she taught private lessons, capturing the beauty of the Master’s work through her skilled oil paintings, which later adorned several galleries and shows in New York City. Her artistic talent emulates and lives on within her oldest grandson, Christopher who travels abroad showcasing his famed work , along with his sister Amanda whose graphic designs adorn well famed advertisements and publications.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Maureen was a woman of diverse talents and interests. As a child, in a time when girls were scorned upon in sports, she became a trailblazer and a competitive swimmer often competing and winning against the boys in local CYO swim meets. Her competitive spirit emulated through her son Peter in his professional baseball career as well as her daughter , Dina in her professional running career and Maureen was their biggest fan as she proudly cheered for both throughout their entire lives.
She was tough yet nurturing and her beauty “could stop time itself” and certainly was never unnoticed as she was discovered early on becoming a model adorning magazine covers and printed advertisements.
Maureen had an innate ability to light up a room with her humor, often turning the most mundane moments into cherished memories with her spontaneous bursts of song and comedic flair. As a child she sang on TV on “The Children’s Hour”and at home, would make an entire room of relatives break down into tears while singing “Oh Danny Boy” alongside the melody of her Mom’s accordion playing . She loved to burst out into loud bellowing song often singing “Send in the Clowns” and “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” as a metaphorical way to counteract the often serious side of her beloved husband. Her love for singing, acting, and modeling added color to the lives of those around her, and her beauty and presence was a sheer gift to all who knew her. Yet, all in all, despite these talents, and imminent rising to fame ,she immediately gave it all up upon the exciting news of her first pregnancy to her first son, Joseph. Her only desire in life was to have children of her own to love and cherish as she absolutely adored them until the day she passed.
As a nurse aide, Maureen’s caring nature was evident in her work, offering comfort and support to those in need. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact of her generous spirit. She taught her children to selflessly give to the unfortunate always stating that a homeless man is very often Jesus Christ in disguise and if you live your life believing this, you will be fulfilled with empathy and compassion each and every day.
A service to celebrate Maureen’s remarkable life will be held on or about her first Heavenly birthday on July 18, 2026, at Resurrection Cemetery at 361 Sharrot Ave in Staten Island, NY. Her friends and family will come together to honor her legacy, sharing stories and memories that encapsulate the joy, love and laughter she spread throughout her entire life.
Though our hearts are heavy with her absence, we find solace in our strong religious faith that our Mom’s vibrant spirit lives on in the laughter and love she instilled in every life she touched as she is reunited with those she deeply loved and the father and artist she always wished to meet. Her memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy, reminding us to embrace life with the same passion, humor and laughter she did.
Rest in peace, dearest Mom. Your songs, love and laughter will forever echo in our hearts.❤️
