Maureen A. Conway, of Simsbury, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, with her loving family by her side.
Maureen, Mosie by those closest to her, lived a life full of curiosity, adventure, and purpose. She made her home in many places over the years, settling in Simsbury for the last four. She remained active, sharp, and engaged throughout her life, until recent health challenges following a series of strokes.
A remarkable leader and visionary, Maureen retired as a senior executive at Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) in 2005. During her tenure from 1989 to 2005, she held several executive roles and led HP’s Emerging Market Solutions Group, pioneering innovative ways to use technology and new business models to address social and economic needs in developing countries. Her impactful work earned recognition in India and the Republic of South Africa, and in 2005 it was highlighted in Thomas L. Friedman’s bestselling book The World Is Flat.
Earlier in her career, Maureen served as HP’s vice president and chief information officer and was honored with the Solomon Smith Barney CIO of the Year Award in 2002. Before joining HP, she spent two decades in technical management at Bell Laboratories, Computer Corporation of America, and Apollo Computer. She began her professional journey as a high school mathematics teacher at Palisades Park Junior/Senior High School in California—an early expression of her lifelong belief in education and opportunity.
A native of North Bergen, Maureen earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from William Paterson University, followed by a master of science degree in mathematics from Montclair University and an MBA with a focus on management and organizational behavior from Temple University.
Her dedication to education continued throughout her life. Maureen served on the William Paterson University Board of Trustees from 2011 to 2016, including a term as vice chair, and on the University’s Foundation Board. She established an endowed scholarship supporting students in the College of Science and Health and played an important role in the creation of the Pioneer Leadership Institute, helping young people build confidence and leadership skills.
Above all her achievements, Maureen cherished her family. She leaves behind many loved ones whose lives are forever enriched by her wisdom, warmth, and generous spirit.
Calling hours will be held on January 8, 2026 from 10:00 AM -12:00 PM with a service following at 12:30 PM at St. Mary's Church in Simsbury. Burial will take place in Los Altos, CA.
