Maureen Elizabeth Dwyer

1935 - 2026

DWYER, Maureen Elizabeth

Maureen Dwyer, resident of Cedar Hill, Missouri, passed away on March 15, 2026, at age 90 after complications from a fall.

She was born in 1935 to Randall Joseph Dwyer (b. 1907) and Mary Corcoran Dwyer (b. 1908), their only child, and spent her childhood in the Dogtown neighborhood of St. Louis, living upstairs from her parents’ lively bar, The White House Tavern.

During her early years, Maureen grew up surrounded by her grandmother from Kerry, beloved Corcoran aunts, uncles, cousins, and the close-knit Irish American community of her neighborhood. She cherished her memories from the St. James the Greater School (though she had fewer fond things to say about her high school, St. Elizabeth’s Academy). She worked in the St. Louis City Circuit Attorney’s office in her twenties where she made lifelong friends. She moved to Jefferson County in the 1960s. There she raised her three children and spent the rest of her life in House Springs, Dittmer, and Cedar Hill.

Maureen was a voracious reader, avid birdwatcher, movie lover, fan of musicals, craftsperson, artist, and, in her later life, a skilled restorer and antique dealer. She kept a beautiful flower garden, baked countless cookies, and was a creative person who could do anything with her hands. She passed along a love of stories and imagination, a biting wit, a finely tuned sensitivity toward history and independent thinking, along with a resourceful DIY attitude about practically everything. She had a saying for every occasion and, among her favorites was: “No guts, no sausage.”

She worked hard to overcome the effects of a series of strokes, never complaining. Her final recorded words were: "I'm fine."

Maureen Dwyer is survived by her two sons Daniel Cytron (Cedar Hill,Missouri) and Mark Cytron (Cleveland, Ohio); daughter Megan Cytron (Madrid, Spain with son-in-law Christian Pérez Yates); and a grandson, Oscar Pérez Cytron (Darmstadt, Germany). She was predeceased by her most faithful companions: Bear (Elbereth), Dumplin', and her childhood dog, Spotty.

She did not wish to have a memorial service, but her family would welcome any remembrances or stories.

Donations in her name can be made to St. Joseph Indian School (https://www.stjo.org/) or the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (https://give.birds.cornell.edu/page/150114/donate/), whose Merlin app brought her so much joy in her final years.
