Maureen Gehring, born on February 5, 1953, in New Haven, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, in New Haven surrounded by immediate family. She was 72 years old.
Maureen's warmth and devotion to family were constants throughout her life. She found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren and cherished every moment shared with them. Whether it was a simple afternoon together or a special trip, Maureen's love for her grandchildren was unwavering.
She had a particular fondness for traveling—especially to Florida and Disney World—where she created lasting memories with those closest to her. These adventures reflected her spirited nature and love of joyful experiences.
Maureen is survived by her two children; Dorie Cruz and William Gehring of North Branford, Connecticut; five beloved grandchildren: Angelina and Adriana Cruz of Norwich, Connecticut; Nicolas and Christopher Cruz of North Branford, Connecticut; and Dylan Gehring of Sandwich, Massachusetts. She also leaves behind her siblings: Alan Cohen of Ocala, Florida; Cyndi Cohen (Richard) Hopper of Etowah, Tennessee; and Shelly Cohen Long of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Her extended family includes brother-in-law John Brandt of Bristol, Connecticut; David McKean of Jupiter, Florida; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will remember her fondly.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Gehring Jr. of North Branford, Connecticut; her siblings Sandra Brandt of Bristol, Connecticut and Debbie Cohen McKean of Jupiter, Florida; her parents Lorraine and Bernard Cohen.
Maureen's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May her legacy bring comfort to those she loved so dearly.
