Maurita D. Winn, 87, of Simsbury, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, surrounded by love. Born in Flushing, NY, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Catherine Hamilton and a graduate of St. Agnes Academic High School.
Rita worked for many years as a branch manager at Colonial Bank and Bank of Boston. After retiring, she enjoyed working at the Kitchen Shop in Glastonbury.
Rita met her beloved husband, Donald J. Winn, in Great Barrington, MA and eventually married on February 7, 1959. They settled in Southington, Ct, where they raised their five children and shared 60 happy years together before Don's passing in 2019.
Family was the center of Rita's life. As a young mother, her greatest priority was supporting her children and sharing in their successes throughout her life. A woman of faith, she believed deeply in providing her children with a strong religious foundation. That devotion continued throughout her life as she remained actively and lovingly involved with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in sharing stories of her family, their kindness, and the lives they built.
Rita cherished family gatherings and especially loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events and musicals. She found joy at the beach—particularly during family vacations in Myrtle Beach, SC—and enjoyed music, time together, and the occasional trip to the casino.
Rita is survived by her children: Jeffrey and his wife Tina of Ridgefield, CT; James and his wife Kim of Bedford, NH; Thomas and his wife Michele of Camillus, NY; Christine and her husband Robert Long of Simsbury, CT; and Kevin and his wife Lori of Granby, CT; along with her 12 grandchildren — David, Matthew, Daniel, Marshall, Timmy, Mackenzie, Patrick, Ryan, Meghan, Kyle, Kendall, and Reagan — and four great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Mortenson of Hampstead, NH, and many nieces and nephews.
Rita was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Kenneth Hamilton.
All are welcome to a Celebration of Life in Rita's honor to be held on Saturday, February 7, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel, 28 Day Hill Road, Windsor, CT. A private burial will take place at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT.
