Max Norman Hansen, age 87, passed away at home on January 25, 2026, in Taylor, Michigan. Born on August 11, 1938, in Big Rapids, Michigan, Max lived a full and vibrant life marked by athletic excellence, deep family bonds, and a joyful spirit that touched all who knew him.

A proud graduate of St. Alphonsus High School, Max was a gifted athlete who excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. His passion for sports remained strong throughout his life as he continued to enjoy golf and bowling well into his later years.

In 1963, Max married Mary Trudell. Together they raised three daughters. Though Max and Mary later divorced, they maintained a close friendship that endured through the years. In 1999, Max found love again when he married Rose Schultz. With Rose came four sons whom Max welcomed into his heart and life with open arms.

Max cherished time spent with family above all else. He was a devoted grandfather to Bo, Garrett, Regan, Johnny, TJ, and Tara; and step-grandfather to Kenny, Mike, Steve, and Aaron. He took great pride in attending their sporting events—cheering from the sidelines with unwavering enthusiasm—and found immense joy in watching them grow.

He is survived by his brother Arthur; his daughters Kathleen (John) Sowards, Susan (Bob) Lineberger, and Jill (Tod) Calleja; his step-sons Dennis Schultz, Christopher Schultz, Glenn (Theresa) Schultz and Eric "Butch" Schultz; as well as his 10 grandchildren and 3 great Step-grandchildren.

Max was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rose; his granddaughter Kelsey; his parents Arthur and Marion; his sister Jacquelyn; and brothers Michael and Robert "Bud."

Beyond athletics and family life, Max enjoyed the thrill of gambling—whether it was playing the lottery or visiting casinos during travels with Rose.

Max will be remembered for his athletic talent that inspired many; for the love he gave so freely to family; for the joy he found in simple pleasures like a good game or a lucky ticket; and for the warmth he brought into every room he entered.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

A funeral mass is planned for 1pm on Friday, January 30th, at St. Alfred Catholic Church in Taylor. Michigan.
