Maxwell Ernest Lewis

1942 - 2026

Max Lewis lived a life defined by showing up—for his family, his community, and the things he loved.

He passed away peacefully, yet unexpectedly, on April 15, 2026, at Queen of the Valley Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 2, 1942, in San Francisco and raised in Oakland, Max was the only child of Daisy and Henry Lewis, who preceded him in death. He went on to earn a business degree from California State University, East Bay and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Max built a life rooted in dedication, hard work, and service. He owned and operated his own insurance business for more than 30 years and spent the last 43 years calling Napa home. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 60 years, his faith and service were a steady and guiding presence throughout his life.

He had a lifelong love of sports and was an avid fan of all Bay Area teams. He didn't just watch—he played, enjoying softball well into his 70s. In retirement, Max embraced new challenges, learning both tennis and pickleball and playing most days. He also found joy in volunteering with Meals on Wheels, biking in Moab and St. George. He also had a soft spot for dogs and rarely passed one without stopping to say hello.

Max's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Judy; his children, Kim Bullard (Ken) of Colorado, Julie Roe of Utah, Jeff Lewis of Alameda, California, and Jen (Bill) of New Hampshire; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He will be remembered for his quick sense of humor, his kindness, his helpful nature, and the steady, dependable way he showed up for others. His presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A service to celebrate Max's life will be held on April 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

His steady presence, humor, and kindness will continue to be felt in the hearts of those who loved him.
