In Loving Memory of Maybelle Melinda Bonhag (Cindy)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Maybelle Melinda Bonhag ("Cindy"), who departed this world on January 8, 2026, at Our Lady of Fatima (The Villas at Saratoga) Saratoga, California. Cindy was cherished by family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on April 3, 1933, in Wisconsin, Cindy grew up in Southern California, where she spent her youth riding horses through the Glendale mountains—a passion that stayed with her throughout her life. She was the daughter of Glenn Coleman and Almira "Mila" Fillion, and from a young age, Cindy exhibited the kindness, warmth, and infectious joy that would define her life.
For over 40 years, Cindy graced the hospitality industry with her glowing smile and warm demeanor, making everyone she served feel like family. Her career began at Bob's Big Boy, where she worked as a bellhop at the very restaurant where the dishwasher—the original Bob himself—inspired the franchise. She later became Maitre D' at Hugo's, the premier fine dining establishment in downtown San Jose, where she formed lasting friendships with San Jose's most notable figures, including Mayor Norm Mineta. In those days, Hugo's was the place where the valley's leaders gathered—from owners to executive editors at the San Jose Mercury News—and Cindy knew them all not as customers, but as friends.
Cindy concluded her illustrious career at the prestigious Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley, where she had the pleasure of exchanging memories of Southern California with Doris Day, reminiscing about the places where they both grew up.
Throughout her life, Cindy's warmth, positive attitude, and genuine care for others endeared her to everyone she encountered. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. Her legacy is one of compassion, grace, and the countless lives she touched with her radiant spirit.
Cindy is survived by her children, Mark Macy, John Townsend, Teresa Austin, and Julie Townsend; her grandchildren, Shaina Zimmerman, Alaisha, and Joseph Austin; her great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Yuriar; her great-grandsons, Richard, Niko, and Kenana Zimmerman; and her great-great-grandson, Noah Rock, as well as countless friends who will always hold her close in memory.

Service Information: TBD

May Cindy rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
