Melissa "Missy" (Cover) Brown Obituary
Melissa Rae (Cover) Brown, 73, of Flinton, formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Gettysburg, a daughter of the late Clyde Robert Cover Jr. and Verna Jane (Deatrick) Cover where her early life was spent in Yellow Hill, Biglerville Adams County.
Melissa was the loving wife of Ralph C. Brown, a retired career law enforcement officer, whom she married in 1999. She is survived by her devoted husband of 26 years, Ralph; her twin sons, Timothy and Corey Barnes of York, PA; a brother, Clyde Robert Cover III; two grandsons, Zackery and Justin Barnes; and two great-grandsons.
Known affectionately as Missy, her career was marked by dedication and service. She worked as a Security Officer for Harrisburg Hospital, now part of the UPMC family of hospitals, and proudly served as a Site Protection Officer for the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Facility, retiring after 19 years of service. Later in life, Missy transitioned her passion for teaching by becoming a respected Driver Training Instructor at Cumberland Valley High School, where she won accolades from her students, and later at the Capital Area Intermediate Unit.
Of all her accomplishments, she was most proud of her twin sons, whom she was able to assist through college to become certified trauma nurses. Missy also had a deep compassion for animals, a testament to her kind heart. She dedicated herself to rescuing and caring for any stray or feral cat that crossed her path, leaving behind several she rescued over the years.
