August 17, 1966 – March 14, 2026

Melissa Leigh Gray, age 59, of North Richland Hills, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her family home on March 14, 2026, due to complications of the heart. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother whose presence filled her family’s lives with warmth, strength, and unwavering love.

Melissa was born on August 17, 1966, in Odessa, Texas, to Dolores Hurlburt and Clarence Massey. She spent her early years in Big Spring, Texas, and later moved to Arlington, where she attended Sam Houston High School. She went on to build a successful career in the mortgage industry, dedicating over 20 years to her work and forming lasting relationships along the way.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Massey; her stepmother, Patsy Massey; her mother, Dolores Hurlburt; and her stepfather, Mike Hurlburt.

Melissa is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Dennis Gray; her son, Shelby Bowden and his wife, Lauren, along with their daughters, Emerson June and Hadley Mae; her daughter, Clarissa Gray and her spouse, Darion Hutchinson; and her stepson, Thomas Gray; her stepson, Daniel Gray and his wife, Julie Gray, and their children, Declan Martin, Lana Jean, Addison Paige, Ashton Michael. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Mc Afee and spouse Steve Hardin and granddaughter Danielle, along with many other family members and friends that loved her deeply. Each of them carries forward her memory and the deep love she gave so freely.

Melissa’s love for her children and grandchildren was truly unmatched. Even while facing her own health challenges, she remained focused on caring for others—always checking in, always putting her family first. Her strength and selflessness were a constant source of comfort and inspiration.

She had a deep love for adventure and treasured the time spent with her family. Some of her happiest memories were made on family trips, especially to the coast, where she enjoyed camping and deep-sea fishing. Her passion for deep-sea fishing was so strong that she even took a trip while seven-months pregnant with her daughter, Clarissa. Year after year, she and her husband made it a priority to plan family vacations, creating traditions and memories that will be cherished forever.

Melissa also had a true passion for art, especially painting. She enjoyed both acrylic and watercolor painting and loved attending classes at the YMCA and Painting with a Twist with her family. She often said those moments were among her happiest.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures as well—sharing meals and laughter with loved ones at her favorite places like Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and especially Whataburger, where she never missed the chance to enjoy fresh, hot fries made just the way she liked them.

Melissa was a woman of deep faith. She believed that everything happens for a reason and trusted that God would always watch over her and her family. Her faith gave her strength, peace, and a sense of purpose that she carried throughout her life.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her kindness, her resilience, and the unconditional love she gave to everyone around her.
