Melvin W. Black, 80, passed away January 18, 2026. Beloved husband of the late Joyce (nee Blasovich). Loving father of Stephen (Courtenay) Black, Heather (Todd) Gregg and Alissa (Jameka) DeLaine. Cherished grandfather of Jonah and Talia Black, Zachery, Maya and Hadley Gregg and Jax DeLaine. Dear brother of Patricia Busken. Fond uncle of Alison and Nick Busken. Preceded in death by his parents Walter and Emily Black (nee Sedovic). Melvin was born in St. Louis, was a lifelong Cardinals fan (and White Sox fan by marriage) and a proud graduate of the University of Missouri. After serving as a VISTA volunteer in Milwaukee, he earned his MSW from UIC, and spent many years as a school social worker. During the course of his life, he served as a little league baseball coach, assistant high school tennis coach, was a business owner, and enjoyed a good Scotch. He had a warm heart, a playful sense of humor, and he loved nothing more than sharing a laugh, often at your expense, but always with love. Melvin enjoyed the theatre, travel, book signings, Roberta Flack, Anita Baker, and his family. A dedicated father, grandfather, and neighbor - he will be missed. Arrangements entrusted to Donnellan Funeral Home. For info 773-238-0075 or sign guestbook at www.donnellanfuneralhome.com.
