Michael Wayne Born, 71, passed away on November 24, 2025 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on November 13, 1954 in Ames, Iowa, he left this world surrounded by love, and leaves behind a legacy of laughter, adventure, and wholehearted generosity.
A proud graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Michael was a lifelong Georgia Bulldog. His professional journey was defined by dedication and leadership as President and Partner of McKee Nix and Associates, where he worked for 36 years before retiring. His career reflected not only his business acumen but also his ability to build lasting relationships and inspire those around him.
Affectionately known as "Mr. Hillbrooke" or "Mr. Fix It", there was no project too big and no problem too small for him to tackle. His talent for building and creating showed up everywhere—from his legendary Christmas arch to the countless projects he happily did for friends, family and his community.
He was a true Georgia Bulldog at heart, always "Calling the Dawgs" with pride and never missing a chance to watch a game with his family and friends. A man of many passions, he embraced life as a world traveler, boater, golfer, fly fisher, camper, and hiker, finding joy in every new adventure. He loved friendly competition and was known as a skilled card shark and loved a good game, bringing laughter and camaraderie wherever he went. He cherished his family deeply, proudly serving as father of the bride—twice—and as the loving officiant at his nieces' weddings. Wherever music played, he was the king of the dance floor, lighting up every celebration with his energy and warmth. His vibrant spirit, boundless curiosity, and love for those around him will be cherished and remembered always.
He was a born leader, the kind of presence who effortlessly found the microphone in his hand. His speeches were legendary—full of heart, humor, and a magnetic energy that pulled every listener in. A true crowd-caller, he had a way of lifting spirits and commanding attention without ever trying. His voice, his leadership, and his unforgettable words will echo in the hearts of all who heard him.
Michael was the beloved husband to Laurie Born, the love of his life and devoted father to Nicole Higgins; Natalie LeMon and her husband Chad LeMon; and Patrick Born and his fiancée Courtney Swaim. He was a cherished grandfather to Nolan LeMon and Eliza LeMon. Michael was the oldest of 6 and shared a special bond with his siblings, Patty Farr, Jeanne Condon, John Born, Paul Born and Kathy Fowler and will be missed by all and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Kay Born.
A celebration of his life will be held on December 3rd at Stoney J's Winery in Cumming, Georgia anytime between 2-5pm. Join us in honoring Mike as we gather to celebrate, remember, and toast a remarkable man.
