Michael Peter Bundy, better known as Pete, passed away peacefully at home on January 4 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 26, 1950, in Ventura, California, to Paul and Dorothea Bundy.

Pete was a lifelong Ventura resident and graduated from Buena High School in 1968, where he was active in the marching band. He later attended the University of La Verne, graduating in 1994 and becoming the first in his family to earn a bachelor's degree.

Pete met his doe-eyed wife, Marsha, in 1974 while attending a concert where she was performing with her band, The Real Thing, at a Nazarene church in Ventura. Their first date was a trip to Disneyland in Anaheim with friends. They were married on Pete's 26th birthday, marking the beginning of a lifetime of love and partnership. They shared 49 years of marriage.

Pete was a legend in the Ventura surf community. In the water, he was known for his smooth style, unique stance, and infamous roundhouse cutback. In the 1970s, he managed William Dennis/Ventura Surf Shop on Thompson Boulevard and later on Front Street, where he was widely respected and deeply liked. Pete welcomed everyone with his big smile and genuine friendliness, making even the youngest groms feel accepted. His impact on the local surf culture was such that he became the inspiration for a character in the surf novel Pier Rats by Bruce Greif.

Later, Pete worked for GAP at their Ventura distribution center, as well as for Buena Financial alongside his longtime friend Bob. He finished his career at Gospel Light, a Christian publishing company, where he managed operations. His deep understanding of the software systems critical to the organization made him indispensable, and he remained with the company until its very end.

Pete loved spending time in Maui, where he filled his days snorkeling, enjoying local restaurants, and relaxing on the beach.

Above all else, Pete was known for his integrity, firmly rooted in his faith in the Lord. In the 1970s, he and his surf buddies—Tom, Bob, and Steve—started a coffeehouse Bible study that led many hearts to Christ. Pete began most mornings in prayer and scripture, grounding his life in faith.

Pete formed many friendships at People's Church in the 1970s. In the 1980s, he attended and served at Shepard Ministries alongside his good friend Tom. In the 1990s and early 2000s, he was an active member of Horizon Foursquare Church, where he led home groups and faithfully ushered on Sundays. Later, he attended Reality Church, continuing to serve by welcoming others with his warm smile.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothea; his in-laws, Robert and Donna Finfrock; his brother Jerry; his aunt Marilyn; and his two chocolate labs, Mele and Mocha. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marsha; his son Micah (Jo); his daughters Jennifer Fullmer (Ian) and Kimberly Haraguchi (Whitney); his cherished grandchildren, Asher, Waverly, and Isaiah; his brother Dave; his uncle John; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In accordance with his wishes, Pete will be cremated, and his remains will be spread in the Pacific Ocean. A paddle-out ceremony will be planned in the near future and will take place at C Street.

"Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation."
—Psalm 91:14-16
