Michael Golding

1934 - 2026

Michael was born on July 4, 1934 in London and he died peacefully at home in Villanova, Pennsylvania, on April 1, 2026 after a five-year illness.

Michael is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Caplan-Golding; his children Sarah, Simon and Sally; his daughter-in-law, Dana and his grandchildren, Adam and Samantha. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Salzgeber; his former wife, Betty Golding and many nieces and nephews.

Michael grew up in a rapidly changing world, and his career took him around that world many times over. Among the various places he lived and worked, Japan held a very special place in his heart. The many years spent there with Linda, and the people they met while living there left an indelible mark on them both.

Michael was an insatiable traveler who adored discovering new cultures and destinations. He was an all-weather golfer and he played on courses around the world, even persuading Linda to play as well. He was passionate about politics and history and music and loved nothing more than discussing their impact on the world today.

Behind his sometimes aloof exterior, his “stiff upper lip”, Michael was warm and giving, unstintingly generous. He will be remembered for his intellectual curiosity, his love for life, and by those he loved the most. May his memory be a blessing.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held in early autumn and we will let everyone know when and where.
