Michael Dale Johansen, beloved brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend passed away on 1/22/2026 at the age of 76.

Mike was born in Boston and raised in Waltham, MA and lived for many years in the greater Boston area. Over 40 years ago, Michael moved to southern California for work, where he happily made his home, first in Buena Park, and later in Fullerton.

While living in Massachusetts, Mike was very active in a local theater group, the Hovey Players. It was there that he met his dearest friend, Lissi Engvall, who predeceased him by just a few months. Mike and Lissi became lifelong travel buddies and they would often travel to Denmark together.

Mike’s marketing career for Toshiba earned him Delta Million Miler status. He was proud of that status and used his miles to travel the world. His love of travel and photography were proudly displayed throughout his home.

Mike was a cancer survivor and following his recovery he enjoyed giving back by volunteering for many years at the City Of Hope Hospital.

Mike loved to cook and entertain and over the years would often host gatherings at his home. These gatherings included neighbors, friends from work, other cancer survivors and his many friends from AA. He always looked forward to his visits back East to spend time with family and friends but he especially enjoyed hosting his family at his home in California.

He was a dear brother and brother-in-law to Cynthia Johansen and Charles Sumner of Brewster, Ma, Deb Johansen Tyner and Michael Tyner of Charlestown, Ma, Wayne Johansen and Nancy Johansen of Franklin, Ma, and Christopher Johansen of Stoneham, Ma and Gina Johansen of Wakefield, Ma. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

He will rest in peace at Mt. Feake Cemetery in Waltham, Ma where his parents, Mildred and Norman Johansen are also buried.

All are welcome to attend a celebration of life in Fullerton, California on March 7, 2026 at the Clubhouse at Rancho Mobile Estates, 1501 W Valencia Drive, Fullerton, CA. at 3:00 PM.
