Michael Mabon, 72, passed away on November 26, 2025, in Austin, Texas. Born in 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska, Michael lived a life marked by curiosity, compassion, and a deep appreciation for the world around him.
Michael's lifelong passion for science and history shaped much of his identity. A true enthusiast of both subjects, he could often be found immersed in books or documentaries that explored the intricacies of the past and the marvels of the natural world.
Beyond his intellectual pursuits, Michael had a tender heart for animals. He was a devoted cat dad and a dedicated rescuer of feline companions in need. His home was often a sanctuary for cats who found comfort and safety under his care.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Cathryn Mabon; his daughter, Mari Johnson; his son-in-law, Dennis Johnson; his stepson, Chris Jones, his daughter-in-law, Shawnta Jones; his grandchildren Amber, Julia, Ethan and Mason Jones; his sister, Melissa Mabon; his brother, Lewis Mabon; his nephew, John Savage; and his niece, Molly Savage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and Royce Mabon.
Michael will be remembered fondly by those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to all whose lives he touched.
