Michael “Mike” James McCaw passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love for his family, country, and community.
Mike grew up in Rolla, Missouri, and graduated from Rolla High School in 1962. A gifted athlete, he was a letterman in both football and basketball and earned All-American honors in football in 1961. He went on to attend the University of Missouri–Columbia on a football scholarship, where he pledged the Sigma Nu fraternity. After one year, he transferred to the University of Missouri–Rolla and graduated in 1970. Committed to lifelong learning, Mike later earned his MBA from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, graduating in 1980.
In 1967, Mike married his first wife, the mother of his two children. He was a member of the ROTC and served in the United States Army, deploying to Vietnam as a First Lieutenant in January 1971 and returning in November 1971. During his service, he was awarded two Bronze Star Medals and a Meritorious Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1987, a source of great pride throughout his life.
Mike married his second wife, Helga Schneider Chalfant McCaw, in 1984. He continued to enjoy sports throughout his life and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed estate sale shopping, collecting beer steins, traveling, and reading. A proud veteran, Mike actively supported multiple VA support groups and events.
Mike was deeply committed to his community. He was a member of both the Dallas and Tulsa Rotary Clubs. In more recent years, he attended Asbury Church, where he participated in the Men’s Breakfast Club and enjoyed golfing with the Asbury Hackers.
Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Charles “Charlie” McCaw; his wife, Helga McCaw; and his parents, Lucy and Chess McCaw. He is survived by his first wife, Linda McCaw; his children, Jason James McCaw (Amy) and Carrie Rae McCaw; his grandchildren, Ethan James McCaw and Seth Alan McCaw; his sister-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” McCaw; his niece, Marissa “Missy” McCaw-Frette (Dave); his grand-niece Emma Frette; his grand-nephew, Lars Frette; and his beloved dog, Duke.
A memorial service celebrating Mike’s life will take place in Tulsa, OK at 1:00pm on Feb 21, 2026 at Asbury Church, 6767 S Mingo Rd. Mike will be laid to rest at a later date in Rolla, MO with details to be shared with family and friends.
