Beloved and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Schafrank, son Scott Schafrank (Lynn), daughter Francine Bianchini (Tom) and grandchildren Stephanie Bianchini, Samantha Schafrank, Lauren Schafrank and Daniel Bianchini. Dr Schafrank was preceded in death by his sister Renee Friedman-Pina and his parents Betty and Benjamin Schafrank.
Dr. Schafrank was adored by his patients in his solo practice of ophthalmology that spanned almost forty years. Some of his patients traveled hundreds of miles out of appreciation for his exceptional skill and compassion. He was a graduate of John Adams High School, Queens College and Downstate Medical School, and was valedictorian at all three institutions. Michael served as a Captain and Surgeon in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. In later years, Michael was a coach for disabled children and adults in the New Hyde Park Little League. He was an active and 50 year member of Shelter Rock Jewish Center in Roslyn, where he was a tenor in the choir.
Services will be held on Thursday, January 22nd at 1 PM at Gutterman's Memorial Chapel in Woodbury. Burial will follow at Mount Golda Cemetery in South Huntington. Shiva will follow the burial at the home of Phyllis Schafrank at 27110 Grand Central Pkwy, apt 11N in Floral Park.
