1939 - 1996

Michele Colleen Henry, aged 57, passed away on March 7, 1996, in Pojoaque, NM. Michele was born on February 21, 1939, in Belcourt, ND, the second child of Donald and Anne Flahart. She graduated from the Loretto Heights School of Nursing in Denver, CO and married William Abbott Henry in 1960. They lived in Namibia (1966-1967), Iran (1969-1972), and Brunswick Maine (1972-1980) where Michele started Yankee Yarns and developed The Red Brick House, a collection of small shops. She moved back west in 1980. Michele devoted her life to helping people recognize and honor their spiritual path. She supported friends who were dying of AIDS and cancer, organized fellow philanthropists around a common mission to better their communities and the planet, and started The Grandmothers Project to collect and preserve the wisdom of elders. In the last five years of her life, Michele faced the challenge of a terminal cancer diagnosis with optimism and determination to find natural ways to heal herself. She was well cared for by friends, family, and hospice. She passed away at home in Pojoaque, leaving behind cherished friends and family including her children, Elizabeth, Kristen, and John Henry, and her grandchildren. She was buried in a family cemetery in Pojoaque. A private celebration of life was held on March 9, 1996.
