Mona was born on May 28, 1938, in Jonstorp, Sweden, and passed away due to complications of Parkinsons disease on January 14, 2026, in Castro Valley, California, at the age of 87.

Mona was a generous, kind, and giving woman whose warmth touched everyone who knew her. At the age of 20, she left Sweden and immigrated to America with two of her sisters, Vanja and Stina. While working as a hostess at the original Trader Vic’s in Portland, Oregon, she met her future husband, Mack. They moved to San Francisco, where her three sons were born. They later moved to the East Bay, and raised their family in San Leandro.

Mona was deeply devoted to her family and community. She managed the bookkeeping for the family’s apartment business, was a dedicated soccer team mom, and served as a scout leader for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. After separating from her husband, Mona began a successful career with Hertz Car Rental, where she worked until her retirement and proudly earned a pension.

She was an avid knitter, and she cherished the friendships she built over decades. Mona gathered once a month with the mothers of Boy Scout Troop 615 for lunch at Horatio’s in San Leandro for more than 40 years. Along with two of her sisters, she also volunteered annually at PGA Golf Tournament Championships in Southern California. A lifelong animal lover, Mona was well known for feeding and caring for many of the neighborhood critters.

Mona is survived by her three sons: Brian; Brent and his partner Katie; and Brock and his daughter Faith. She is also survived by her younger brother Bertil and his partner Kristina, and their children Erika, husband Björn and daughter Tova; and son Mickey and his son Colin. She is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Zara and her husband Lani and their children Keaton, Taitum, and Fletcher; Vanessa and her husband Darren and their children Samuel and Teddy; Monika and her husband Hans-Olav and their children Tova and Max; Magnus and his partner Magdalena and their sons Peps and Calle; and Niclas. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Kurt; his son Mark and wife Heather and their children Katie and Ethan; niece Rebecca and her daughters Hazel and Ruby.

Mona was preceded in death by her father Ivan, her mother Annalisa, her sisters Stina, Vanja, and Sonja, and her nephew Steven.

A funeral service will be held on March 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Jess C. Spencer Mortuary and Crematory, 21228 Redwood Road, Castro Valley, California 94546.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mona’s memory to the Bay Area Rescue Mission.

Mona will be remembered for her generosity, her quiet strength, her love of family, and the kindness she freely gave to people and animals alike. For the Swedish family, and friends who are unable to attend, we will be live streaming the service, and further information will be provided.
