Mr. Charles Edward McCabe, Sr., aged 83, passed away on February 18, 2026, in Columbus, GA. Born on March 9, 1942, in Pomeroy, Ohio , he dedicated 27 years of his life to the U.S. Army, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC). Following his military service, he spent 17 years as a Crossing Guard with the Muscogee County School District, where he was a familiar and reassuring presence to many.
Charles was a kind and helpful man, known for his love of animals and his enjoyment of reading news on the web and watching movies. He cherished his conversations with his oldest granddaughter, Christina, with whom he shared many interests.
He worshiped at Edgewood Assembly of God, where he was a valued member of the community.
Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lillian A. McCabe of Columbus, GA; his daughter, Charlotte A. Wade (Richard); his son, Charles Edward McCabe, Jr. (Irena) of Reykjavik, Iceland; and his granddaughters, Christina Lois (Michael) of Mukwanago, WI, Agatha, and Adriana McCabe of Reykjavik, Iceland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence B. McCabe I and Anna Mae Banks, as well as his brother, Clarence B. McCabe II, and sister, Joyce Ann McCabe.
Charles will be remembered for his dedication, kindness, and the quiet strength he provided to his family and community. His life was a testament to the values of service, family, and faith, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
