Muriel L. (Gilet) Hickey, 92, of North Chelmsford, formerly of Lowell, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 23, 2025, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick A. Hickey, D.M.D. with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on January 22, 1933, in Dracut, MA and raised in Lowell, MA. Muriel was the daughter of the late Albert J. Gilet and the late Lucille O. (Roussel) Gilet. She was a graduate of the Academy of Notre Dame, Class of 1950, St.Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1953 and Rivier College (now Rivier University), where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1955.
Muriel worked as a registered nurse before devoting her life to raising her family. She was a natural caregiver who always put others' needs before her own. She enjoyed baking, gardening, reading and traveling. She also enjoyed spending time with friends from nursing school and the Tuesday Morning Coffee Club. But most important to Muriel was the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Muriel is survived by her five children, Frederick A. Hickey, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Nashua, NH, Michael A. Hickey and his wife, Nancy, of Wellesley, David W. Hickey and his wife, Alison, of Houston, TX, Myriam O'Neill and her husband, John, of Chelmsford, and Anne M. Hickey and her partner, Chris, of Rohnert Park, CA; by her eight grandchildren, Andrew and his wife Sara, Ryan, Pauline, Jack, Clare, Michael, Christopher and Tom; by her sister, Charlotte Rickert of Nashua, NH and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin brother, Albert J. Gilet, Jr.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 4 until 7 PM at the Mahoney Funeral Home,187 Nesmith Street, Lowell, MA 978-452-6361. A Funeral Mass for Muriel will be held on Wednesday, December 31, at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 144 E. Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA where Muriel was a longtime parishioner. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury, MA. Memorials in her name can be made to the Immaculate Conception Building Fund, 3 Fayette Street, Lowell MA 01852.
