Myrna Lambert, a woman of profound kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering generosity, passed away on January 29, 2026, at the age of 80. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Myrna spent the last several decades of her life in the warmth of Estero, Florida, where she built a legacy of service and friendship.
Myrna's 33-year career in education was defined by her belief in the potential of every child. She began her journey teaching English in Ohio and abroad before moving to Lee County, Florida. For 22 years, she served as a guidance counselor at Bonita Springs Middle School until her retirement in 2006. To her students, she was a patient and supportive listener; to her colleagues and friends, she was a source of stability who met life's challenges with quiet grace and resilience and remained a steadfast anchor for others, young or old.
A lifelong voice for peace and justice, Myrna rooted for the underdog and cared deeply about social equity, women's rights, and LGBTQ equality. Her compassion extended to all living things; she was a protector of the environment, a devoted tender of her orchids, and had a special affinity for animals, particularly seals, bears, and turtles. Throughout her years, Myrna embraced a healthy lifestyle, swimming and walking several miles on most days. She found joy in the outdoors, whether hiking, cycling, or visiting the mountains she loved so dearly.
Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Ruby (Gilbert) Lambert, and her brother, Andis. She is survived by her nieces, Claudia Barnes (Joseph) and their children, Nicholas and Samantha; Rachel Gaydosh (Greg) and sons, Joshua and Benjamin; her cousin Carl Lambert; and her former sister-in-law, Beverly Bakos. Beyond her biological relatives, Myrna leaves behind a vast network of dear friends whom she proudly called her "chosen family." All who knew Myrna remember her sweet nature and generous spirit, and the way she supported others through their most difficult times with a compassionate heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her home state of Ohio later this year; additional details are forthcoming. Those who wish to honor Myrna's lifelong commitment to justice and mercy are encouraged to make a gift in her name to one of the charities she supported: the American National Red Cross, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Foundation, the ASPCA, or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).
