Myron Dwight Shipley passed peacefully in his sleep at his son's house in Piggott, AR, on March 19th, 2026. Myron was born Feb 20, 1937, at his home in Kansas City, MO, to M. Lenetta ( Battles) and Tilmon W. Shipley. He was the second of five children, and the first boy. He was put to work young at his dad's corner grocery in Westport, MO.
In high school, Myron's best friend, Henry, and Henry's girlfriend, Naomi, set him up on a blind date with Naomi's best friend, Beverly Aschwanden. Myron said it was love at first sight for him. Beverly once said it took a few dates, but his persistence paid off. They married in 1956, when Beverly was 17, and Myron was 19. They welcomed Linda, Phillip, and Pamela to their family. Sadly, Linda passed away at 4 years old, but there was one more surprise in store when they welcomed Michelle eleven years later.
Myron began working at Hallmark Cards at the main plant in Kansas City, MO, in June 1955, right after graduating from high school. He helped build machinery for small and large die-cut, as well as for ribbons. He moved to the new plant in Lawrence, KS, worked on machines, and eventually worked his way into management in large die-cut and the warehouse. At 55, he was offered early retirement and happily accepted it. Once retired, he and Beverly travelled around the United States, including a trip of a lifetime up to Alaska and back, all while pulling a high/low travel trailer. They spent many weeks and weekends at Treasure Lake Resort in Branson, MO.
Beverly passed away in October of 2007, after 51 years of marriage. The following year, Myron met Eva. They were great friends for 18 years, and she introduced him to overseas travelling. These trips included Spain and Morocco, the Greek Isles and Turkish Straits, the Panama Canal, Hawaii, an Alaskan cruise, and the Caribbean.
In Myron's own words to his children:
"Please know this: Your mother and I loved each other very much. I think of her every day. We met at very young ages as we were in our teens. We were true to each other the rest of our lives together. We both loved all you kids very much. I still think often of Linda Carol who, as you know was called to heaven before you could get to know her. I was blessed to have two ladies to share part of my life. They entered my life just when I needed them. I would have been lost without them. Thank God for Beverly and Eva. I leave this life with very few regrets. I wish all my family long, happy lives, I will see you in the great beyond. I love you all, goodbye and God bless."
Myron played an active role in his children's lives. He was a scoutmaster while his son worked his way through the Boy Scouts ranks. He was always there to help fix a door, fix a car, or even remodel a kitchen. He loved holding every single new grandbaby and great-grandbaby. He was great at advising each of his kids, whether it was asked for or not, and most of the time, it was good advice. He taught his children a good work ethic, how to show up on time (most of us), and how to park a camper. He has left a legacy through his children and their families.
Myron is preceded in death by his parents, Lenetta and Tilmon, his wife, Beverly, his oldest daughter, Linda Carol, and his great-granddaughter Chloe. He is survived by his four siblings: Marceil Horn, Don (Charlena), DeWayne (Judy), and Dena Loos. His three remaining children: Phillip (Nancy), Pamela (Robert) Watson, and Michelle (David) Dumler. His grandchildren: Brian (Nichole) Shipley, Chad (Kathy) Shipley, Katie (Klayton) Parscale, Jennifer (Zach) Phelps, Brianna Watson (Maya Rodriguez), and Nathan Dumler. His great-grandchildren: Hailey Shipley, Adison Phelps, Brennan Gardner, Maddox Shipley, Logan Shipley, and Anthony Shipley. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, their children, and grandchildren.
In place of flowers, the family would ask for donations to St. Jude or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements have not been finalized yet, and we will update them as we know more.
