Myrtle Cadres Maxwell, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA, at the age of 71. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Orleans, on October 29, 1954 to late Oliver Cadres Jr. and Cecilia Cadres. Myrtle was a life long resident of the Westbank. She was raised in Gretna and received her early education at All Saints Catholic Elementary School before graduating from L.B. Landry High School. Demonstrating a lifelong commitment to learning and personal enrichment, she continued her education at Moler Beauty School and Delgado Community College. Myrtle was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and love in her community. She cherished time spent with her large and loving family and leaves a legacy of enduring love and cherished memories.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Maxwell Jr.; her parents; Oliver Cadres Jr. and Cecilia Cadres; her sisters Martha Harris and Sherre Baptiste; and brother, Oliver Cadres III. Myrtle's memory will be forever cherished by her devoted children, A'Keem Cadres Guillemet (Daryl) and Kimberly Cadres. She was the proud grandmother of Glenn (Sade), Chavez (Erika), Jeremy, Ahsari, and Cha'Mieri Cadres; Chloe Guillemet; and Brooklyn Edwards. She was also a doting great grandmother to Raylenn, Rhylei, Rhyan, Autumn, Rhyder and Emrie Cadres. She is survived by her siblings; Floyd Cadres, Anna Chivers, Paulette Diaz, Cecilia Green, Lois Richards, Mona Caceres , Miriam Casey and Joann Lacour. Myrtle also leaves behind her nephew; Arthur Videau III and godchildren; Miguel Romar Wilson, Alisha Cadres, Nathanile Roche, and Abron Harrison, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends who will miss her dearly.

Celebration of Life
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Myrtle's life to be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 924 Monroe St. , Gretna, LA 70053 (at the corner of Franklin and Burmaster), on January 24, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Family and friends are invited to attend and share fond memories of Myrtle during this time of remembrance.
