Nancy Jane (Cook) Brown passed away on December 26, 2025, in California, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on August 6, 1955, in Du Quoin, Illinois, to AJ “Jimmy” and Florine Cook, Nancy lived a life rooted in compassion, service, and meaningful connection with others. A devoted and steady presence, Nancy was a mother whose love, guidance, and encouragement shaped the lives of her children, Nicholas and Geena. She was a proud grandmother to her beloved grandson, Orion, who brought her immense joy and light. She is also survived by Nicholas’s partner, Tatiana, and remained close with her former husband, Bruce Brown, sharing a lasting bond of family and respect. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Peggi Tolliver.
A Registered Nurse by both calling and heart, Nancy dedicated her life to caring for others with patience, dignity, and grace—especially those who were vulnerable or in need. Her compassion extended beyond people; she had a lifelong love for animals and rescued many dogs and cats, offering them safety, gentleness, and the same devotion she gave so freely to others.
Music nourished Nancy’s soul, and she was a lifelong spiritual seeker who found community through Unity Church. She lived by simple but powerful truths she often shared: “We can do hard things,” “Remember who you are,” and “There is good in everyone.” These words guided her life and continue to inspire those who loved her.
Nancy will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and the steady comfort she brought to those around her. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
She was, and always will be, love.
