Rev. Nancy (Warrick) Goyings, (June 22, 1944 – January 11, 2026) passed away peacefully at home, following complications of Alzheimer’s.

Nancy was the daughter of Dr. Earl and Jean (Davis) Warrick, born in Pittsburgh, PA. She grew up in Midland, MI and graduated from University of Michigan in 1966 with her A.B. in language and a teaching certificate. Nancy married Dr. Ed Goyings in 1966 and they moved to Frankenmuth, MI where they raised their two daughters Laura (Goyings) Wagner and Cheryl (Goyings) Hardy. Though Nancy and Ed divorced in 1975, they continued to support one another in raising their daughters. From 1975 to 1987 Nancy was a Stained-Glass Craftsperson and Instructor. She showed her work in numerous juried art shows around the Midwest. Over the years, she created dozens of commissioned works for churches, companies, individuals, and Frankenmuth City Hall. Her final commissioned piece was sent to Gunzenhausen, Germany, the sister city of Frankenmuth.

Embarking on a new career, Nancy then attended Michigan State University and received her first Master’s degree in Educational Systems Development. From 1984 to 1996 Nancy worked for various corporations and organizations coordinating training, development, and communication. She also worked as a Consultant and Computer Trainer in Automation.

Nancy led a faithful life, making time for disciplined Bible Study as well as spiritual reflection. That faithfulness brought Nancy to her final career change. This time, she responded to God’s call to ministry in 1990. She returned to school again, this time at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. This major move from MI to OH meant changes for Nancy and her family. As she continued the process leading to ministry in the United Methodist Church, other things seemed to fall into place.

So, in 1990 Nancy listened to God and on a Friday evening in August, she met Rev. Randa D’Aoust on the steps at United. Each was alone and they decided to go to dinner together. Thus began a 30+ year relationship.

With graduation, Nancy was ordained in the United Methodist Church in the Detroit Conference. She received her Master of Divinity in 1993 and was ordained in 1995. Off she went to a two-point charge in the thumb of MI. She served Kilmanaugh UMC and Unionville UMC for 2.5 years.

Nancy moved to San Luis Obispo, CA and worked in social services for a helping agency guiding individuals through their prison re-entry program. In CA, Nancy and Randa shared space. When Randa was moved to Redlands by the California-Pacific Annual Conference, Nancy connected with the leadership and sought an appointment near Randa’s.

Nancy’s first appointment in Cal-Pac was Highgrove UMC. While serving there, she guided this small church to extraordinary mission giving & they were honored at Annual Conference. After serving Highgrove from 1999-2005, she was appointed to Linda Vista UMC, a largely Filipino congregation that had a Vietnamese congregation sharing their facility. While Nancy was there, Linda Vista began having quarterly worship services for the 2 congregations. She also helped them build budgets that more accurately matched the reality of their finances.

After retiring in 2009, Nancy didn’t sit back and watch the world go by. She had a wonderful hobby of making personalized pop-up cards for friends and parishioners. In addition, she was creative and a visual artist.
One thing held steady through Nancy’s adult life. She and Randa had discovered one another. They had a relationship that was deep and fulfilling. Nancy continued to take part in the local churches where Randa was serving. Together, they taught classes, led retreats, and joined in interfaith gatherings.

After Randa retired and the political scene was affirming, Nancy and her beloved wife, Randa celebrated their love with a wedding in 2014.
Nancy is survived by her wife, Randa; her daughter Laura (Brian) Wagner, her daughter Cheryl Hardy; her grandchildren Brianna (Scott) Hoekstra, Daniel (Caitlin) Wagner, special granddaughter and great grandchildren Nefeteria (Jordan) Love and Meiyah & Jabari (all of MI); her sister and brother-in-law, Cathy Warrick and Joe Buttle (CA); her sister-in-law Michelle Koonce; (IL); her brother-in-law Jim Edwards (GA); her cousin Sue Leathen and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Dr. Earl and Jean Warrick; her mother-in-law Betty Edwards; and her brother-in-law Billy Koonce.
