Nancy Lynn Sarco (née Nelson), born March 16, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away on December 19, 2025, in Lawndale, North Carolina after a long illness. Her life was marked by compassion, dedication, and a deep commitment to caring for others. She also had a terrific sense of humor and a quick wit. Her sisters and friends have many fond memories of silly, crazy times with Nancy, who was always the leader of our girl adventures.
Nancy graduated from Wasson High School in Colorado Springs in 1966. Following her graduation, she pursued her passion for helping others by attending nursing school in Colorado Springs, where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her career as a nurse was defined by her unwavering empathy and generosity. She spent much of her professional life serving the Harrisonburg VA community, with a special focus on providing care to elderly citizens during their final years. Nancy’s boundless compassion left a lasting impact on those she cared for and worked alongside.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Charleston Sarco; her son, Justin N. Sarco (1971–1990); her brother, Stuart William Nelson; and her parents, Marva Weaver Nelson and Dr. William R. Nelson.
Nancy is survived by her three children and six grandchildren. Her siblings are: Tina Nelson Hair, Camille Nelson Strasters, St. Claire Nelson, Sarah Nelson Stokke-Johnson, Carlton Nelson.and her best friend Melody Morris Clements. Her presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Nancy will be loved and missed forever. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and cherished her. There will be a private funeral at a later date.
