Mrs. Nancy Kathryn Speed Wallace, age 76, of Hampton, VA, went to her eternal home on Saturday, December 31, 2022, lovingly surrounded by her family, after an extended period of illness. She was born on March 18, 1946, in Enterprise, Alabama, a daughter of the late James Russell Speed (former Coffee Co, AL County Agent) and Perrine Langford Speed.
Nancy was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by her. We ask that you remember her for the way her life was lived and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Nancy was also preceded in death by her sister Carol Speed Britton of Mobile, Alabama, and by her brother Robert Joseph Speed of Enterprise. She is survived by her husband, John Weekly Wallace, Sr, of Hampton, Virginia, sons John Weekly Wallace, Jr, of Hampton, and William (Bill) Russell (Hilda) Wallace, of California, daughter Daphne Brooks Wallace, and granddaughter Adriana Lane Koss of Hampton, Virginia. She is also survived by and sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and a very large number of loving cousins.
Nancy was a 1964 graduate of Enterprise High School and a 1968 graduate of Auburn University where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She and John were married on December 27, 1967, in Phenix City, Alabama. It was after his graduation from Auburn that they moved to Virginia where she worked as a substitute teacher, but only for a while, because she wanted to be a homemaker and a stay-at-home mother for her children. She and John later moved to Clarksville, Georgia where they lived for nineteen years before returning to Virginia where she would be close to her family.
Her body was cremated and plans are to have her ashes interred with her parents at Meadowlawn Memorial Park in Enterprise.
