Nancy Tuer (née Bauer), age 73, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at her home in Bridgeville, Delaware. She departed this world exactly as she wished—surrounded by her loving family and cherished cats, beside her favorite window and Christmas tree, with a rosary in one hand and a small wooden cross in the other. Her passing was filled with comfort, peace, and grace.
Born on August 22, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland, Nancy was the daughter of William "Bill" Bauer and Anna "Peggy" Bauer. She was raised in a close-knit family alongside her siblings and spent many joyful days on the Eastern Shore and the ocean—places that nurtured her lifelong love for the water.
Nancy dedicated her life to caring for others through her proud vocation as a nurse. Over decades of service at Hartford Memorial Hospital, Jennersville Hospital, and Union Hospital, she helped welcome thousands of babies into the world and offered solace to countless families during their most difficult moments. Her compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication made her a beloved colleague and an irreplaceable presence in the lives of those she served. Nancy took immense pride in her profession and held deep affection for the colleagues who shared in her journey.
Above all else, Nancy found her greatest joy in being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children: Jeffrey Tuer; Jennifer Phillips; Andrew Tuer; and Patrick Tuer, her 15 grandchildren: Joseph Owens; Joshua Tuer; Jacob Tuer; Megan Miano; Matthew Tuer; Joseph Bartoletti, Elijah Tuer; Jocelyn Starkey, Nicholas Lang, Carson Tuer, Finley Tuer, Raegan Tuer, Mason Tuer; Quinn Tuer; and Brianna Phillips and her 8 great grandchildren: Jack Tuer; Stella Tuer; Ellijay Starkey; Braxton Miano; Makaveli Gonzalez; Owen Phillips; Elanor Phillips; and Garrett Phillips. Her love for them was boundless and evident in every aspect of her life. She also leaves behind her sisters Linda Olszewski-Cook and Therese Nesbitt; her brother Ken Bauer; and many dear friends whose lives were brightened by her warmth and humor.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Peggy Bauer, as well as her brother Michael Bauer. In keeping with her deep Catholic faith, she looked forward to reuniting with them in Heaven. A devout believer who lived with grace and conviction, Nancy believed that death was not an end but a beginning—a return to God’s embrace.
She was the heart of her family—their backbone—and brought joy wherever she went. Known for her kindness, sharp wit, and loud contagious laugh, Nancy had a gift for making people feel seen and loved. Whether it was cooking a big breakfast, sharing stories over coffee or laughing with family or friends late into the evening, she created memories that will be treasured forever.
Nancy’s legacy is one of love—love for family, for friends, for faith—and it will continue to live on through all who knew her. May we honor her memory not with sorrow but with smiles and laughter, just as she wished. In a final act of her selflessness, and as a multi-cancer survivor, she has donated her body to medical research. At the conclusion of this research, her ashes will be returned to family, and a future celebration of life service will be planned.
May eternal light shine upon Nancy as she begins this next chapter. In lieu of flowers, please do something fun and make a memory with people you care about and think of Nancy. She would love that.
