Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Public Servant & Friend

Nancy Carol Zibutis, 77, of Sherman, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025 after a courageous 25 month battle with cancer.

A woman of grace, warmth, and strength, Nancy Zibutis lived a life rooted in love, service, joyful simplicity, and deep community connection. Born to Kenneth and Betty Bryce in Springfield, Illinois, Nancy was the devoted wife of Bill, loving mother to Trey (Amelia), and proud grandmother to Jack (Cozette), Emma, and Maggie Zibutis, and Madison and Tucker Hirsch. Her grandchildren were her heart's greatest treasures. She was the kind of grandma who made everything feel special — "The Best Nana," not just in title but in truth.

Nancy brought professionalism, diligence, and care to her 34 years at Illinois Bell/Ameritech. She started work straight out of high school and retired at age 52. She was known for her reliability, warm demeanor, and deep commitment to her work — earning the respect of colleagues and the friendship of many.

For three decades, Nancy selflessly served as a Sherman Village Trustee, where her thoughtful leadership and genuine concern for others left an indelible impact on her community. She believed in listening, in showing up, and in making decisions with both head and heart. Her legacy of civic service stands as a testament to her character and love for her neighbors.

Nancy was active in numerous organizations that reflected her love of people, animals, and community. She was a dedicated member of the Animal Protective League, a proud participant in the Red Hat Society, former President of the Springfield, IL chapter of the AARP, and belonged to several beloved social circles including her "birthday group", "Friday breakfast group", and "sorority group". She helped initiate the Sherman MOVE group, demonstrating her commitment to civic progress and community engagement.

Nancy also found great joy in supporting her grandchildren's sporting, musical, and academic events—never missing a chance to celebrate their accomplishments. Her home and heart were always open, shared lovingly not only with her family but with her cherished pets, who brought her companionship and delight. Nancy embraced life's everyday joys with style and spirit.

Nancy Zibutis leaves behind a life full of grace, community, and connection — and a family and village who will carry her spirit forward with love, laughter, and compassion.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
