Narain Bhatia, 87, of Lexington, Massachusetts, passed away on December 12, 2025. Born in Karachi and raised in post-Partition Mumbai, he came to the United States in the 1960s to pursue graduate studies and went on to become the first Indian partner at Peat Marwick Mitchell.
An entrepreneur at heart, Narain co-founded Minuteman International and later launched Suitable Match Inc. After retirement, he devoted himself to civic and nonprofit leadership. He founded the nonprofit incubator Nonprofit.net, served as a founding director of the Lexington Education Foundation and the Cary Memorial Library Foundation, and was an elected member of the Lexington Town Meeting for more than 20 years. He was a pioneer in expanding Indian American civic and community engagement through the Indian American Forum for Political Education and iGIG (Indian Americans Getting Involved Group).
Known for his thoughtful leadership and inclusive spirit, he also served with the Lexington Interfaith Clergy Association and the New England Hindu Temple. His life embodied a deep commitment to service, community, and family.
He was a beloved family man and is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vidya; daughters Sangeeta and Sujata; sons-in-law Jagesh and Chris; and granddaughters Anjali, Anya, Karina, and Sarina.
