Nicholas "Nick" Brooks Long was born on September 6th, 1990 in California. He passed away in Memphis on January 11th, 2026. Nick is survived by his partner in life Margaret Moore, his father Kenny Long, stepmother Sharon Long, brother Alan Long, his wife Kailen Long, and sisters Avery and Savannah Long.

Nick was preceded in death by his grandmother Rose Marie Willis, mother Andee Long, and uncles Grady and Dan Grinstead.

Nick was honored to be blessed with a big, loving family; on his father's side, his grandmother Rosemary Long, grandfather Dr. Charles J. Long, uncles Charles, Steve, Greg, Chris, and Jon Long, aunts Jennifer and Melissa Long, and best friend and cousin Chris Long.

On his mother's side, he was beloved by his aunt Cindy Hearn, her partner German Soliman, cousins Trey, Jesse, Haylee, and Jennifer Hearn, and Carolina and Indiana Soliman.

Nick was a proud uncle of Elam, Farren, and Gus Long, Everlee Smith, Hunter Young, Vicky Soliman, and Justice, London, Emma, and Gus Latta.

Nick attended Cordova High School from 2005 to 2009. He was currently a first year University of Memphis student working on a degree in computer science with a 3.8 GPA.

Nick had many gifts. He was a savant with computers, a skilled gamer, a writer, and a very talented singer-songwriter musician with the heart of a poet. He frequently performed his solo act around midtown or with Tonejunkies band members Cameron Moore and Josh Stonecipher. He valued his family above all else and loved his partner Margaret, his bean, very dearly.

He loved spicy pickles and sour candy. He would even carry citric acid in his pockets when sour candy wasn't enough. Anyone who found cry baby tears or sweet tarts lying around could be sure it was his.

He loved deeply and always made a point to tell everyone in his life what they meant to him. He was a friend to animals and would sacrifice his own comfort for theirs. He was a dog whisperer who adopted and tamed the wild Irish wolfhound, Obi-wan, his only hope.

He was sensitive and caring. He never ceased to impress everyone who knew him as the shy child that grew into a man of many artistic and performative talents.

He was a sharp wit. There was no guard he couldn't disarm with his body language and brevity. He radiated joy and love and could make anyone laugh even on their worst days. He carried a light that can never be extinguished and lives on in the souls of those he touched. He was a pure spirit that knew no malice or hate. He was our hero.

We will always love you, Nick.

A celebration of Nick's life will be held on Saturday, January 17th, at 5705 Shelby Oaks Drive from 2 to 4pm.
