Nicolas "Nick" Lopez, Jr., 73, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 9, 2026. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran and pastor, Nick was known for always being willing to lend a helping hand and for the quiet kindness he showed to everyone he met.
He is preceded in death by his son, Nick Lopez III ("Little Nick"); stepdaughter Leesa Ramirez; his parents, Nicolas Lopez Sr. and Conrada Lopez; siblings Roque Lopez and Yolanda Lopez; and nephew Robert "Baby Robert" Lopez.
Nick is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sulema Rosas; his former wife, Irma Little, with whom he remained friends; daughters Jenny Mora (Robert), Jessica Storck (John), Maria Rita Lopez (Zachary); son Joaquin Rodriguez (Hannah) and Stepson Robert Ramirez; and stepdaughter Natasha Rosas. He treasured time with his grandchildren Nneka, Matthew, Gavin, Tristin, Jamar, Briley, Wesley, Amri and Zadrian, and his great-grandchildren Sadie, Charlie, Nnyla, Donovan,
and John Michael.
Early in his adult life, Nick served honorably in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles), airborne qualified and proud of his service. After returning home he completed a bachelor's degree in industrial arts, moving his young family back to Kingsville and later to Premont to be closer to family. He answered a spiritual calling and served as Pastor Nick — a man of few words who always knew what to say. He loved mentoring others, leading youth trips to Camp Zephyr and Camp Menard in Palacios and camping outdoors with his many brothers and sisters across Texas state parks. He found great joy sleeping under the stars and playing on the machinitas; L'Auberge and Vernon's were among his favorite places.
Nick's steady presence, warm laughter and readiness to show up for people will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Services will be held at 6:30 PM Wednesday April 15, 2026 at the Alaniz Funeral Home in Falfurrias, Texas
