Obituary of Nita Kensington Boyle
January 22, 1947--August 23, 1996
Nita Kensington Boyle of Saddle River, New Jersey, loving daughter, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 23, 1996, at the age of 49.
Early Life
Nita was born on January 22, 1947, in Bristol, England, to Nicolas Ktoris Georgiou and Moira Esther Achinapura (née Peacock). She was the eldest of four children and is survived by her three brothers: Costa Nicholas Kensington and his wife Cheryl, Nicolas Andrew Kensington and his wife Laura, and Loucas George and his wife Kathy.
She attended Redland View Preparatory School in Bristol before emigrating to the United States with her family on May 31, 1954, aboard the S.S. Olympia. Although the family initially planned to settle in San Francisco, California, they ultimately made their home in New York and New Jersey.
Education
Nita spent her early years in Union City and West New York, New Jersey. She was captain of the Cheerleaders and graduated with honors from Memorial High School in West New York in 1964. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University in 1972, majoring in Psychology. Through her professional career at JPMorgan, she completed the Executive Training Program at Harvard College.
Following her parents’ divorce in 1966, Nita became notably self-reliant and financially independent, qualities that defined her throughout her life.
She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1973, along with her mother.
Professional Career
Nita was highly intelligent and enjoyed a distinguished professional career in real estate finance during the 1970s and 1980s. She worked in commercial mortgage originations for Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association and starting in 1976 in Real Estate Advisory at Morgan Guaranty Trust (JPMorgan), where she was elected Vice President in April of 1980.
In this role, she negotiated multi-million-dollar acquisitions of commercial properties throughout the United States, including 404 Park Avenue in New York City, on behalf of major bank clients, including Merv Griffin. At a time when few women held such responsibilities, Nita’s accomplishments were both exceptional and pioneering.
She also invested personally in securities and real estate, acquiring multiple properties in New Jersey, Florida, and New York, including a residence at Madison Green on East 22nd Street in Manhattan. This occurred while she was still in her late 30’s.
Nita was an inspiring role model to her brothers, nieces, and nephews, and her friends.
Marriage and Travel
Nita maintained an active travel life, including overseas ski holidays. During one such trip in 1984, she met Sally and Frankie Boyle, who introduced her to their brother, John Boyle, a veterinarian from Saddle River, New Jersey. Nita and John were married on November 17, 1986, and shared an active life together until her passing in 1996.
Following her marriage, Nita and her husband traveled extensively including trips to Ireland, Africa and throughout the US.
Later Years and Friendships
Nita maintained a wide circle of friends and professional colleagues throughout her life. Among her long-standing friends were Sally and Frankie Boyle, Bernadette Moran, Nancy Eiles, Robert “Bo” Breglia, all of New York, Gunilla Knutson and her husband Per von Scheele and Shickery Anton.
She also preserved close relationships with her extended Greek Cypriot family and friends, including Andy and Marie Georgiou and their children Sotiris and Petros; the Georgiou brothers and their families; Nicolas and Linda Ktoris and family; Diane and Phil Hughes and family; and many others.
Legacy
Despite her untimely passing, Nita left a multi-million-dollar estate to provide for her mother and husband and to support the education of her nieces and nephews. Among such assets were cash annuities for her husband and mother lasting over 10 years and real properties and other funds for her mother (providing financial support for over 30 years). Her generosity ensured long-term financial security for her family and reflected her lifelong devotion to their well-being.
