Send Flowers Plant A Tree
Norma Veldean Sammann Long (88) went home to be with Jesus on Friday, December 5, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, following a brief illness.

Norma was born on January 23, 1937, on the family farm outside Plainview, Texas, to Willie Henry Sammann and Lillian Bishop Sammann. At the age of six, Norma and her older sister, Marlene (Mollie) Snelson, lost their mother to a lengthy illness. The family moved to the city of Plainview, where Norma attended school
and graduated from Plainview High School.

Soon after graduating high school, Norma met the love of her life, William (Bill) Edward Long Jr. They were married on February 14, 1954, at First Baptist Church in Plainview. The couple soon relocated to Lubbock, Texas, where they planted deep roots and raised their family, welcoming three sons and one daughter.

Norma extended her education to include a business degree from Draughon's Commercial College in Lubbock. Norma worked at various department stores in Lubbock, she served as a Food Nutritionist for the State of Texas, worked as a Census Taker, and became a licensed Realtor. When Norma was an employee at Hemphill-Wells Appliance Center the building was destroyed by the devastating tornado on May 11, 1970. During Norma's working career she discovered her true passion for floral design, becoming a talented and skilled floral designer. She co-owned "Something Special," a gift and floral shop, with her sister Mollie Snelson, and generously shared her talents by teaching floral design classes throughout the community. Norma enjoyed a varied and accomplished career.

Norma was a faithful and cherished member of Parkway Drive Church of Christ in Lubbock, where her husband served as a deacon. After Bill's passing, she poured her faith and energy into a Christian Women's Bible study group where her spiritual life expanded with the help of her Christian friends.

Norma and her sister Mollie were inseparable; everyone remembered them as the ever smiling duo. Norma was an avid family historian. When she met someone, she could later recall their name, where they were from, their entire family history and what type of vehicle they drove. Norma was generous and kind to strangers, she made lifelong friends throughout her neighborhood and, in later years, affectionately reigned as their beloved "gossip queen." Norma prided herself on always knowing her directions and every street in Lubbock. Norma had a passion for "Rubber Necking". She loved chasing fires and ambulances, a trait she proudly passed down to her granddaughter. Norma cherished every moment with her children and grandchildren, always referring to her youngest son as "Mark the Cop." Above all and in her eyes, her granddaughter could do nothing wrong.

Those who preceded Norma in death include: her husband, Bill Long; her parents, Willie and Lillian Sammann; her sister, Mollie Snelson; her son, Kirk Long; her in-laws, A.D. and Vera Long Davis and William Edward Long Sr. (Bill Long's father).

Norma is survived by her sons, Carey Long and wife Kim, and Mark Long and wife Connie; her daughter, Diana "Dee" Long; granddaughter Shawna Long Meyer and husband Luke Meyer; sister-in-law Nelda Jo Rose Stinson. Step-grandchildren include: Bodie Taylor, Jamie Taylor, and Michael Rumsey; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews; and her beloved puppy, Carbon.

Funeral services celebrating Norma's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Bartley Funeral Home in Plainview, Texas, with burial to follow immediately at Plainview Cemetery. Bodie Taylor will officiate.
